About us

Founded in 2014 during a pivotal moment in Nepal’s history- marked by political transition, constitutional restructuring, and the lingering impacts of a decade long-armed conflict- the Nepal Peacebuilding Initiative (NPI) emerged in response to the urgent need for sustained peacebuilding, inclusive governance and transitional justice. NPI was established with a vision to foster long-term peace, reconciliation, and inclusive development in Nepal. Since its inception, we have worked to bridge divides between communities and policymakers by employing both top-down and bottom-up approaches. In recent years, NPI has partnered with national and international organizations to implement victim-centric transitional justice initiatives, strengthen social cohesion, and promote climate change strategies.

Our approach combines grassroots mobilization with policy-level advocacy, ensuring that our efforts are participatory, evidence-based, and locally owned. We focus on empowering communities to lead their own transformation while building strong institutional frameworks for justice and development.

Driven by our dedication to inclusive dialogue, victim-focused transitional justice, human rights promotion, and climate resilience, NPI has emerged as a key actor in Nepal’s peacebuilding and development efforts. Our initiatives are grounded in through research and deeply informed by the lived realities of impacted communities, enabling us to advance a just and lasting peace that tackles the root causes of injustice.

Our Vision

We envision a peaceful, just, and prosperous Nepal where differences are resolved through non-violent and inclusive approaches, and development is equitable, climate-conscious, rights-based and sustainable. In this vision, every individual—regardless of background, ethnicity, gender, or social status—has the opportunity to thrive, actively participate in decision-making and benefit from a cohesive and harmonious society.
